Robert Brown Marr, 97 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
Robert was born on May 22, 1922, in Glasgow, Scotland, before coming to the United States in 1925. Amherst became his home 1972 after several moves throughout the US.
Robert was a sales engineer for the automated tool industry working at Potter and Johnson Corporation, NA Woodworth Machine Tools, and Pratt and Whitney later becoming ITW. Finally he was self employed for six years as Robert Marr Consulting.
He was affectionately known by family and friends as SOB (Sweet Old Bob) and was a veteran of WWII where he served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. He then served in the Rhode Island Reserves until 1950, achieving the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. Sweet Old Bob was passionate about baseball and loved his Cleveland Indians. He was extremely excited about the prospects of the 2019 team.
Robert is survived by his 5 children, Sandra Ann Reichert (Jerry) of Bluffton, SC; Robert Wallace (Sandra Lynn Coward) of Fenton, MI; David Charles (Janet Allen) of Amherst, OH: John Alexander (Sue Vasu) of Lorain, OH; Nancy Marr Crawford (David) of Fenton, MI; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great great granchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Ethel "Gracie" Eva Spink in 2010; his parents Alexander Brown Marr and Agnes Jane Main Marr (nee: Ferguson); and his brother George Harvie Ferguson Marr in 2015.
Friends may call Tuesday, August 6, 2019, from 4-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Additional visitation will be available on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.
