Wilma Jean Mayfield (nee: Jones), 84 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, September 3, 2021, at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center.
She was born November 28, 1936, in Frasier, Kentucky. As a young adult, Wilma came to Ohio and has made her home in Amherst for over sixty years.
She was an active member of Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church. Wilma along with her late husband owned and operated Johnnies - Green Acres Flea Market in South Amherst. She was also employed with Ohio Family Services for over twenty years. Wilma was a member of the Red Hat Society and also served as a Girl Scout Leader. She loved listening to bluegrass music and was well known in her community.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis A. Healy (Michael) of Amherst; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Ruth) Oesterman and Luke Berner and Emily (Zachary) Casper; her great grandchild, Lily Berner; son in law, Jim Oesterman, and sister in law, Mary (Gene) Branscum.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, John Mayfield Jr. in 2006; her daughter, Sandy Oesterman in 2009; son, Glen Dale Mayfield in 1982; and her parents, Anthony and Elsie Jones; as well as sixteen siblings.
Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 6-8 p.m..at Hempel Funeral Home 373 Cleveland Ave, Amherst, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church; 500 W. Main Street, South Amherst. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/. The Rev. Farrell Keith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
