Verlin G. Phillips, 60 years of age, and a resident of Norwalk, passed away April 12, 2022, at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
Verlin was born June 6, 1961, in Willard, Ohio. He spent the majority of his life in South Amherst.
Verlin was formerly employed at the Cleveland Quarries in Amherst. Outside of work, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles and watching science fiction movies. He loved going to church and attending gospel shows. He will be remembered as an old fashioned man who was proud of his family.
Survivors include the mother of his children,Paula; his children, Sandi (Drew) Deskins of London, KY, Verlin “Red” Phillips of Elyria, Chris (Cotton) Phillips of Oberlin, and Stephanie Phillips of Elyria; his grandchildren, Gracy Gregory, Abigail Salkeld, Keira Phillips, and Kayli Phillips; his great grandchildren Kyzer and Bristol; his siblings, Orbin Phillips of South Amherst, Pearl Phillips of Elyria and Arlena Phillips of South Amherst; and his father Virlin Phillips of South Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Gregory; and his mother Thelma Jean (nee: Patrick).
Public Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. at Hempel Funeral Home . Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com .
