Thelma Jean Allsop (nee: Mathes), 95 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born April 2, 1927, in Amherst. Jeanie was a lifetime resident of South Amherst, graduating from South Amherst High School with the class of 1945.
She was a member of South Amherst First United Methodist Church. Jeanie was employed as an Elementary School Secretary and Librarian with the South Amherst School system for twenty years. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, and spending time with her family. She was especially fond of the holidays and birthday celebrations that happened each year. Among the things that Jeanie found joy in were cooking for family, traveling, square dancing and going on cruises.
Survivors include her children, Richard “Dick” (Janet) Allsop of Amherst, William “Bill” (Beverly) Allsop of Vermilion and Joanne Allsop of Columbus; her grandchildren, Cortney Bennett (Jay), Tyler Allsop (Holly), Becky Remner (Justin), Ryan Allsop (Meghan); great grandchildren, Sam, Kenzie, Ashton, Reese, Garrett, Owen, Max, and Austin; and one great great granddaughter, Lillian ”Lily”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of sixty years Harold Allsop, Jr. on March 21, 2006; her great granddaughter, Satira King; her sister, Frances Phillips; and her parents, Harmon and Vivian Mathes (nee: Green).
Friends may call Friday, July 29, 2022, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m..at the funeral home. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com. The Rev. Joshua Bender, pastor of South Amherst First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
