Susan Johnson Obituary

Susan McEwen Johnson of Avon Lake, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake, OH. 

She was 64 years old. Born June 1, 1959, in Montreal, Quebec, she was the daughter of David J. and Shirley D. (Stevens) McEwen. Susan was a graduate of Seaholm High School, Birmingham, MI and Wittenberg University. She later earned a master's degree in education from Baldwin-Wallace College and dedicated nine years to teaching in the Strongsville City Schools. 

On June 24, 1989, she married the love of her life Robert A. Johnson, Jr. of Elyria, OH, and they enjoyed 34 years together. Susan was a long-time substitute teacher at Westside Christian Academy, a member of Providence Church in Avon, OH, and active in the following organizations: The City Mission, Bible Study Fellowship, Lifeworks Ohio, and Providence's International Student Ministry. Susan was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. 

She is survived by her loving husband Rob; sons Ryan and his wife Emily of Columbus, OH, Eric of Tampa, FL, and Brent and his wife Catherine of Gig Harbor, WA; brother John McEwen and his wife Kris of Royal Oak, MI; sister Jane McEwen of Macomb, MI: sister-in-law Stacey L. Schultz of Hoover, AL; and her parents David and Shirley McEwen of Macomb, MI and along with eleven nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her brother, Steven G. McEwen.

Susan's memorial service will be on February 17th at Providence Church, 35295 Detroit Rd., Avon, OH  44011. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, and the service will start at 11:30 am.

She was a compassionate advocate for women and children experiencing homelessness, as a founding member of "Rise," a women's philanthropy group supporting Laura's Home Women's Crisis Center, part of the City Mission. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The City Mission; please write the check to The City Mission and designate "Laura's Home" or "in honor of Susan McEwen Johnson" in the memo line.
