Sharon Lee O’Neil, 81 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Keystone Pointe Way in Lagrange, following a lengthy illness.
She was born December 17, 1939, in South Amherst, graduating from South Amherst High School with the class of 1957. Sharon lived in Avon Lake for twenty-one years before moving back to South Amherst where she resided until her passing.
She was employed by the City of Avon Lake as a clerk of courts for twenty-one years before retiring. Sharon was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst where she sang in the choir, and ministered to the shut-ins at the nursing homes with her singing. She loved road trips, and flea market shopping. Sharon enjoyed bird watching and adult coloring.
Survivors include her daughter, Gina Knarich, and her companion James Willbond of Oberlin; her grandchildren, Crystal Russell, Jessica Knarich, Sharon Willbond; seven great grandchildren; her sisters, Shirley Kerekes of Elyria, and Carol McBennett of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-seven years, Bruce O’Neil; and her parents, Harvey and Ann Amenhauser (nee: Vargo).
Public visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, February 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 at Faith Baptist Church; 440 North Lake Street, Amherst. The Rev. Alex VanCurran, pastor will officiate. Burial will take place privately at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
