Sara Catherine Lockhart

Sara Catherine Lockhart (nee: Creed), 90 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 6, 2022, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a full and meaningful life.

She was born July 5, 1931, in Tazewell, Virginia, where she was raised and lived before moving in 1953, to the Lorain County area.  Lorain had been her home for the last twenty-one years.

Sara was employed as a custodian at the UAW Local #425, and Driscol Music in Lorain before retiring. She was also employed as a school bus driver in Elyria.  She was a member of the Church of the Open Door where she was an active volunteer in the office and kitchen. She enjoyed reading her Bible, word puzzles, music and shopping. Sara loved to tend to her flowers, gardening and canning her produce.  Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family

Survivors include her loving husband of seventy-four years, Eugene C. Lockhart, whom she married Aug. 11, 1947; her children, Nick Lockhart of Mt. Pilot, NC,  Pamela (Jack) Hall of Thornton, KY, Deborah (Don) Mitchell of Lorain, Darrell Lockhart of Lorain, and Guynith Branham (Rodney Browning) of Vermilion; sixteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Harold Creed, Kenneth Creed and Guynith Cash; and by her parents, James and Carrie Creed (nee: Whitt), and by her daughter in law Sharon.

Friends may call Monday, January 10, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 noon at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.  Her grandsons, Rev. Scott Mitchell and Matt Mitchell, will officiate and lead worship.  Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
