Ruth Ella (Furniss) Hilliard

Ruth Ella Hilliard (nee: Furniss), 96 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away  January 8, 2023, following a full and meaningful life. 

Ruth was born September 28, 1926, in Pleasant Twp., Ohio and raised there. In 1960, she and her family moved to Amherst where she has remained a resident. 

Ruth’s primary focus in life was that of homemaking.  She treasured caring for her family and sharing all that she had with them.  Whether maintaining the fire in the wood stove or preparing meals, Ruth loved to be busy around the house.  She will be remembered as a generous and hospitable woman of character. 

Survivors include her children, Gladys Ruth McClintock of Gerard, PA, and Ada May Hilliard of Amherst; her six grandchildren,  Danita, Lizzy, Bobby (Melissa), Arthur III (Be Be), Stephanie, and Scotty; her five great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Constanie, Shelby, Connor, and Connie.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Arthur Ray Hilliard Sr.; her children Aurthur Ray Hilliard Jr. and Leta Mae Hilliard; her siblings, Jim Funiss, Ed Funiss, Dale Furniss, and Earnestine Hart, and her parents, Daniel and Lidia Furniss (nee: Rush).

A public graveside will be held Friday January, 13, 2023, at 11 am at Cleveland Ave. Cemetery in Amherst, Ohio.
