Ruth Lee Dutton (nee: Pilkins), 80 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness.
Ruth was born May 19, 1941, in Matewan, WV, where she was raised and lived in Virginia until coming to the Oberlin area. Amherst has been her home for the last 57 years.
She was a beloved mother and housewife who loved various crafts including quilting and handwork. She enjoyed reading, collecting dolls, and flower gardening. She was a member of TOPS. Most of all she treasured spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Henry Gene Dutton, Sr.; her children Yvonne Dodson of Amherst, Henry Gene (Donna) Dutton, Jr. and Rebecca (Karl) Unangst, all of Wellington; seven grandchildren Janelle, Micayla, Kristi, Henry III, Emily, Benjamin, Kaitlyn; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; her siblings John Alicie and James Alicie of TX, Fred Alicie of Cincinnati, OH, Martha Harsar of Oberlin, and Ida Alicie of TX.
Ruth was preceded in death by a great grandchild Preston Bollon in 2001; her sister Patricia Hardin; and her parents Milburn and Maude Alicie (nee: Pilkins).
Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, July 5, from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1 pm, at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.
