Ronald E. Brotherton Sr., 87 years of age, and a resident of Sun City, Arizona, formerly of Elyria, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at Lund Family Hospice Home in Arizona, following a brief illness.
He was born July 17, 1932, in Elyria, Ohio. Ron was raised and lived in Elyria for many years before moving to Arizona where he had resided for the last twenty-one years. He was a 1950 graduate of Elyria High School.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Military Police Officer. Ron was employed with Brotherton Disposal Industries/ Browning-Ferris Industries for fifty years retiring as an operations manager 1992. Early in life He was also employed with the Lorain County Sheriff Department for twelve years as a road deputy. Prior to moving to Arizona Ron was an active member of the Church of the Open Door in Elyria. He was a motorcycle enthusiast. Ron was active with the special olympics. Of all the things his children will remember most about their Dad it will be their fathers love and dedication demonstrated to them as he cared, sacrificed and raised them as a single parent following their moms death in 1970.
Survivors include his children Sherry Brotherton of Wellington, Ronald E. Brotherton, Jr. of Vermilion, Cathie Reihl of Hanford, CA and Betsy Schoewe of Sandusky; ten grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren; his brothers Rick Brotherton of California and Gary Brotherton of Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of ten years Iris Brotherton (nee: Lescher) in 1970; his second wife of forty years Betty M. Bellottie Brotherton on July 7, 2020; his daughter Yvonne Blodgett in 2016; his brother George and his parents George, Sr. and Ella Brotherton (nee: Ryan); as well as his nephew Michael Brotherton.

Burial will take place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
