Robert Bray Obituary

Robert (Bob) Elwood Bray, 77, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Main Street Care Facility in Avon Lake, Ohio.  Bob was born August 29, 1946, in Tateville, Kentucky. His childhood years were spent in South Amherst and he made his permanent residence in Lorain. 

Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  After his military service, he was employed as an assembler at Lorain Ford Plant for thirty-two years.  He retired in 2001. Bob was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he volunteered as an usher.  As a young adult he loved roller skating and was an instructor at Crystal Beach in Vermillion. 

His hobbies included fishing, golfing, bowling, bingo and playing cards. He was also an avid bird watcher. He and his wife, Skeeter, managed the bingo hall at St. Mary Church in Lorain for over thirty years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Juanita (Skeeter) Bray (née Rico); his children, Audra L. Bray-Medina (Jesse) of Lorain, Robert A. Bray (Ebony) of Lorain and Jason L. Bray (Katie) of Wellington. His grandchildren include Brandon (Mikayla), Alec (Izzy), Logan (Allison), Noah (Debbie Jo), Dillon (Cierra), Alayna, Devin, Brian, Cici, Jason Jr. and Adriene (Tori).  His great grandchildren include Elias, Enzo, Dakota, Luke, Easten, Noah, Ryland and Haiden. Bob is also survived by his siblings, Pamela (Sonny) Gray of Lorain, Debra Green of Lorain, and Douglas (Judy) of Louisville, Kentucky. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews; his best friend, Jessie Duncan; and his cat, Lucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis and Elsie Bray (née Phelps); his siblings Palmo, Delno, Denton, Georgia Marcum, Rozella Holloway, Geraldine Morrow, Elaine Clark and Katherine.

Friends may call Monday, January 22, 2024, from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Grace Baptist Church, 500 W. Main Street, South Amherst.  The Rev. Farrell Keith will officiate.  Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com. Burial will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
