Regina Dalzell (nee: VanNiel), 87 years of age, and a lifetime resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Amherst, where she was raised, graduating from Amherst High School in the class of 1952.
Regina was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and a prayer group leader. She worked as a presser at Amherst Dry Cleaners. She had also worked at the Parma General Motors plant as an assembler for five years. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader over the years and also was a member of the local chapter of the Red Hat Society. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing and boating, and was an avid Indians and Browns fan. She and her late husband, Frederick, grew award-winning lilies. She was a member of the North American Chapter of the Lily Society, a secretary for the Ohio Lillies Society, and attended lily conferences all over the country and Canada.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Michael) Sexton of Amherst, James (Susan) Dalzell of Naples, FL, and Susan (Robert) Trimble of Lorain; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and her sister, Marilyn (Herbert) Lamprecht of Amherst.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Frederick Dalzell; her son, David Dalzell; her grandchildren, Robert Paul Trimble, Barbara Dalzell; her siblings, Leonard VanNiel, Robert VanNiel, Wayne VanNiel; Joan Fitch, and her parents, Edwin and Lucy A. VanNiel (nee: Gilles).
Friends may call Friday, January 7, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Facemasks will be required at all services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst, Ohio. The Rev. Fr. Timothy O’Connor, will officiate.
