Michael Alex Kozie, 53 years of age, and a resident of University Heights, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, at his home after a brief battle with heart disease.
Michael was born February 3, 1970, in Lorain, and was a 1990 graduate of Lorain High School. He lived in Blissfield, Michigan before returning to northeast Ohio in 2020.
Michael worked as a maintenance man at McDonalds in University Heights. He enjoyed watching professional wrestling and listening to heavy metal music. He was beloved by his family and treasured spending time with them.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his children, Brandon Owens-Kozie and Gabriel Owens-Kozie of Lorain; his grandchildren, Brandon Lee Owens-Kozie, Elijah Cecil Owens-Kozie, and Zephyr Yuma Owens-Kozie all of Lorain; his mother, Naomi (Brenda) Kozie-Peak of University Heights; his sisters, Stephanie (Andrew) Bailor of Vermilion and Rachel Kozie of Blissfield, Mi; his cousin Christopher (Carrie) Cox; his nieces, Victoria Bailor, Emily Bailor and Alexis Shinsky; his great nieces and nephews, Zaylin Nay, Azella Nay, and Cameron White; as well as many cherished family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by; his father, Alex Kozie in 1989, by his paternal grandparents Anna and Stanley Kozie; and maternal grandparents, Kathleen and Frank Maynard; as well as by Stacey Lee Roney, his longtime companion.
Friends may call Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 10 am until the time of the service at 12 noon at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. The Rev. Melvin Saylor, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ South Amherst will officiate. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com .
