Mavis J. Ellison (nee: Stacey), 83 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away October 6, 2021, at UH Elyria Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mavis was born September 20, 1938, in Jewell Ridge, Virginia where she was raised. She lived in Lorain before moving to Vermilion 15 years ago.
Mavis was a former member of Beacon Baptist Church where she was in charge of the children’s nursery for several years. She completed a Bible course through Liberty Baptist University in VA in her younger years. She worked as a seamstress for Dalton’s Sewing Company, but by far she treasured her time spent with her family as a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years John; her children Shirley “Jean” (Robert) Francis of Wakeman, Charles (Debra) Huffman of Shepardsville, Kentucky, Clarence Huffman of Maryland, Richard (Brenda) Huffman of Moorehead City, NC; and Samantha “Sami” Jones of Vermilion; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; her siblings Thomas Stacey , William Stacey, Lucy (Jay) Kennedy, Ruth (Phil) Sigman; and Mary (Lynn) Freeman.
Mavis was preceded in death by her son Tracey Ellison; her parents Clarence and Helen Stacey (nee: Smith).
Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, October 12 from 10 am until the time of the service at 12 noon at Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, Ohio. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/. The Rev. Gary Dorsey will officiate. Burial will take place at Rugby following the service.
