Mary Lou Probst Obituary

Mary Lou Probst (nee: Hicks), 84 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake.

She was born June 1, 1939, in Jane Lew, West Virginia where she was raised. In 1960,  Mary Lou moved to Lorain and had made her home in Amherst for the last fifty-three years.

She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst.  Mary Lou found great joy in serving her Lord in the church's Awana program, kitchen hospitality for special events and even  served as a camp counselor with several church camps in Ohio.  She had a servant's heart and was often found giving care to the elderly in her community of friends and family.  Mary Lou loved traveling the United States, Canada and Alaska with her late husband.  Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Jami (Don) Anderson of Amherst, Jeri (Mark) Dresbach of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Jodi (Cameron) Sloan of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina; her grandchildren Courtney Jorris, Connor Anderson, Whitney Cusick, Kyler Dresbach, Jordyn Lusk and Peyton Sloan; seven great grandchildren; and her brother Sam Hicks of Jane Lew, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-two years, James Clayton Probst on July 20, 2022; seven siblings and her parents, Paris and Ruth Hicks, (nee: Lamb).

Friends may call Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 440 North Lake Street, Amherst, OH 44001. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
