Mary Ellen (Brubaker) McGrew

Mary Ellen McGrew (nee: Brubaker), 66 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away  Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Mercy New Life Hospice Residence Center following a lengthy illness.

Mary Ellen was born May 25, 1955, in  Elyria, and graduated from Elyria High School with the class of 1973.  Amherst Township has been her home for the last 27 years. 

After high school, Mary Ellen went on to earn her LPN through Lorain County Community College in 1981.  She served as an LPN for the Lorain County Jail and many years at the former Elyria Memorial Hospital.  She loved all types of animals, including dogs, horses, and birds.  In her spare time she could be found cooking or reading.

Survivors include her husband of forty-seven years, Sam McGrew; her daughter Jennifer Baker of Elyria; her grandchildren Jacob Baker and Dillon Baker; her brother Doug and Patti Brubaker of Oberlin; her cousins Jeanne and Jay Fowl of Elyria; lifetime friends Peggy Parks, Becky Knepper, and Lee Miller, and many other friends and cousins.  

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Donald “Bru” and Lena Brubaker (nee: Gentile).

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
