Obituary


Mary Dorothy Knoble (nee: Buras), 97 years of age, and a resident of Henrietta Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Welcome Home Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
 
She was born April 2, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois. Mary was raised in Lorain County, attending St. Stanislaus Church and School and graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Lorain with the class of 1943.
 
Mary was a devoted wife and mother of nine.  She cherished this role and  was an excellent listener. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Catholic Church in South Amherst.  She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and the past member of the parish council and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Mary was a past director of the Parish School of Religion for many years. She was fluent in Polish and English. She enjoyed her polka parties and was blessed to have had a few at Welcome Nursing Home, attended by family, friends, and several residents and staff.   In her free time, she was an avid Yahtzee expert(take a cheat), crossword puzzle enthusiast(done in ink), and playing card games with family and friends.  She loved many genres of music, her favorites being polkas and operas. In her later years, she loved the Hallmark Channel.
 
Survivors include her children, Laura A. Borkowski (Mike)  of Wakeman, Joan M. McNary (Norm) of Lorain, Marian Jo Kovach (Bob) of Berlin Heights, Paul J. Knoble (Dawn) of Houston, TX, Anne M. Callahan (Paul)  of Amherst, Joseph R. Knoble (Tanya S. -deceased) of Henrietta, Thomas J. Knoble (Antoinette) of Marysville, and Katherine A. Rotuno (Chuck) of Bay Village; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren and two great -great grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, Joseph L. Knoble on April 17, 1995; her daughter Marie Knoble in 2013; her siblings, Henry Mularski, Mike Mularski, George Mularski, Wanda Prybylski and Angeline Oremus; her parents, Frank and Flora Buras (nee: Strozewski).
 
Friends may call Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 3-6 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst.   Closing prayers will be held Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 333 South Lake Street, South Amherst.  The Rev. Fr. Timothy O’Connor, pastor,  will officiate. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst. 
 
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of New Life Hospice and Welcome Nursing Home for their care and support.
