Marilyn Lewis Obituary

Marilyn J. (nee: Vollmer) Lewis, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 1, 2024, following complications brought on by congestive heart failure.

Mert, as she was known, was born in Amherst to the late George and Ella (Vargo) Vollmer. 

She graduated from Marion L. Steele High School in 1967, and retired from Nordson after many years of service.  Mert enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She was an avid Browns, Indians, Cavs and OSU fan.  Back in the day, on any given sunny summer day, you could find Mert by the pool working on her tan.  She had a great sense of humor and a very generous and kind heart.  She was a great lover of animals, especially dogs.

She is survived by her sisters, Sharon Vollmer of Amherst, Judy (Tom) Wright of Henrietta Township; her step children, Anthony (Jill) Lewis, Erin (Jason) Wisniewski; step grandchildren, Jacob (Kendra) Wisniewski, Christina Wisniewski, Katelyn, Hannah and Maxwell Lewis and great granddaughter, Virginia Wisniewski all of Michigan; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews; her sister in law and husband, Carole and Peter DeHart; and her brother in law Rev. Kendall Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim; her brothers, George Vollmer and Tom Vollmer, and her parents, George and Ella (Vargo) Vollmer.   

The family will receive friends, Friday, January 5, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, OH  44001. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . 

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, The Hospice of the Cleveland Clinic,6801 Brecksville Rd #10, Cleveland, OH 44131, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
