Marilou Joan Seiders (nee: Porter) 68 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior following severe kidney failure brought on by her long time battle with multiple sclerosis, on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Amherst Manor Nursing Home.
Joan was born August 14, 1952, in Amherst where she was raised and graduated from Amherst High School with the class of 1970.
Joan was a registered nurse and graduated from the M B Johnson School of Nursing in 1973. She worked in several hospitals over her lifetime as she and her husband Kenneth LeRoy Seiders moved around the country for his work. A gifted writer, she loved to express herself in poetry, write in her journal, correspond with friends by letter, and work on her book regarding her family history. Most of all she found tremendous pleasure in her son and his accomplishments.
She is survived by her only son Shaphan David Seiders; her brother John Porter of Wakeman, and mother Beatrice Porter.
Joan was preceded in death by her sister Donna Sue Schafer and her brother Tarvin Porter as well as by her father Tarvin Porter.
Graveside services for family and friends will be held Monday, November 30th at 1:30 pm at Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst. Rebroadcasting of graveside services will be available at YOUTUBE/Hempel Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Wickens, an associate pastor of Church of the Open Door in Elyria will officiate.
A public memorial service will be held at Church of the Open Door in Elyria at a later date. The service will be livestreamed on the churches website for those unable to attend.
