Margaret Pikey Obituary

Margaret Ann Pikey (nee: Shumaker) of Amherst, Ohio, was born in Lorain, Ohio, on April 25, 1923.  She passed away on Wednesday, May 18, at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, Ohio, at the age of 99.  At the time of her death , she was under the care of Harmony Hospice.  

She attended school in Birmingham, Ohio graduating with the class of 1941.  After high school she married Nelson Pikey on February 21, 1942.  They were married for sixty four years.  They were members of the Elyria Church of the Nazarene and Margaret served for many years as a Sunday School teacher as well as church board member. 

Following her retirement from Lorain Products, the Pikeys retired to Lakeland, Florida, where they lived for seventeen years.  When Nelson became ill, they returned to Amherst.

Margaret enjoyed traveling, reading, and her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Starbuck (Dale) of Amherst, OH, Judie Litchfield of Archbold, OH, and Joyce Bodkin (Ron) of Ormond Beach, FL.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Scott Bodkin (Schanna)of Jacksonville, FL, Amy Kline (Shawn) of Amherst, Kimberly Burgess (Ron) of Ormond Beach, FL, and Tracie Holman (Ben) of Defiance, Ohio; as well as four great grandchildren, Samantha Hodge (Wyatt), Samuel, Nathan, and Claire Kline.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson in 2005;  sister, Betty Farr in 1994; brother, Arthur Koppenhaffer in 2022, and her grandson, Thomas Zbinden, Jr.

Friends and family may call at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, Ohio, on Sunday, May 22, from 6 pm until 8 pm and on Monday, May 23, from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.  Pastor Scott Eastburn of the Elyria Church of the Nazarene will officiate.  Interment will take place at Ridge Hill memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township, immediately following the service.
