Marcia Edith Heckert (nee: Herman), 78 years of age, and a resident of Medina, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Western Reserve Masonic Community.
Marcia was born May 24, 1944, in Oberlin, where she graduated with the class of 1962 from Oberlin High School. For the last 50 plus years she lived in Pittsfield, until recently moving to Medina.
Marcia retired from Kendal at Oberlin in 2009 as an executive secretary after having served for 19 years. Prior to that, Marcia worked for the Oberlin Clinic from 1964 -1970 and in quality assurance for Allen Memorial Hospital from 1981-1990. She was a life-long member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in South Amherst where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She kept busy with her memberships in the Wellington Town & Country Club, The Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as its past president, the Wellington Sorosis book club, and her quilting group of ladies. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, baking, and sewing. Her most treasured moments were spent with her family, especially the grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years Carl Leroy Heckert; her children, Eric (Kathleen) Heckert of Swanton; Leslie (Monroe) Heckert-Welborne of Worthington; her grandchildren, John Paul Heckert, Benjamin James Heckert, Michael Paul Heckert-Welborne; and her brother, David (Judy) Herman of Del Ray Beach, FL.
Marcia was preceded in death by her parents John and Edith Herman (nee: Margalish).
A public memorial service will be held , April 1, 2023, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s U.C.C of South Amherst, 204 Leonard St, South Amherst, OH 44001. The Rev. Mel Saylor, pastor of St. John's U.C.C. and the Rev. Paul Eaton will officiate. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . A private burial will take place at Pittsfield East Cemetery.
