Lula M. Starr, 79 years of age, and a resident of Grafton, died Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at UH Elyria Medical Center, following a brief illness.
She was born January 15, 1942 in Delbarton, West Virginia. Lula had made her home in Lorain County for the last sixty years.
Lula worked in the cafeteria at St. Joseph Hospital for over thirty years before retiring in 1993. After retirement, she volunteered her time at Mercy Regional Center in Lorain. Lula attended Christian Life Church in Lorain. She loved attending Cleveland Indians games and doing word search puzzles. Lula loved dancing, especially the hillbilly stomp. Her greatest joy was her nieces and nephews and the family puppies, Sully and Lilly.
Survivors include her sister Mary Jo Skeens of Grafton; her nieces, Elizabeth Darr (Victor) of Vermilion, Virginia “Sue” Honeberger of Elyria,Debbie Figula (Jim) of LaGrange; her nephew Thomas Paul Skeens of Grafton: her great niece Melissa Figula of LaGrange; her great nephew Jonathan Figula (Ashley) of Sheffield Lake; and her great great niece Madelyn Figula of Sheffield Lake.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers; her parents Jess and Edna Starr (nee: Adair).
Public visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon at Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, Ohio. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . Burial will follow at New Russia Township, Oberlin.
