It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Lois J. Barankovich who passed away on January 8, 2022, at the age of 92 at Kingston of Vermilion.
Lois was born in Lorain, Ohio on December 22, 1929, graduated from Henrietta High School in 1948, and had made her home in Amherst since 1955.
She was a loving wife, mom and grandma and valued the time she spent with her family. She enjoyed her weekly trips to the Amherst Public Library because her number one passion in life was to read. She also spent time working crossword puzzles, listening to music and attending concerts, gardening, feeding the birds, and snuggling with her cat, Cleo. Later in life she became quite a fan of the Cleveland Indians. She began her spiritual journey at Henrietta United Church of Christ where she served as secretary for the Women’s Guild for many years.
She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ for over 50 years and earned the 25-year Perfect Attendance Award in the church choir.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memory her children, Diane Oetzel (Dan) of Glen Allen, Virginia; Dan Barankovich of Elyria, and Amy Edwards (Jerry) of Amherst; her grandchildren, Brianne Bell (Steve), Greg Oetzel (Jessica), Julie Barankovich (Tom Baron), Rachel Edwards (Ross Beedle) and Steven Barankovich; her great-grandchildren, Natalie, Marissa and Zachary Oetzel, and Caroline and Nora Bell; and brother, Blake Steele.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, George Barankovich; her brother, Don Steele and parents, Floyd and Ruth Steele (nee Reynolds).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Kingston of Vermilion as well as Mercy New Life Hospice for the loving and compassionate care to Lois during these difficult days.
Private services will be held by the family.
