Lawrence William Baumann, 93 years of age, and a resident of Henrietta Township, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020, at New Life Hospice in Lorain following a full and meaningful life.
He was born June 15, 1927 in Amherst, Ohio. Lawrence had made his home in Henrietta Township for most of his life. He graduated from Henrietta School with the class of 1945. Lawrence continued his education at Baldwin Wallace College and Ohio State University.
He proudly served in the United States Army as an instructor in the propulsion system of the Corporal Guided Missile. Lawrence owned and operated Firelands Farm, Inc. A 5 generation dairy, beef and grain farm. Over the years, Lawrence served on the Lorain County Farm Bureau Board, 18 years on the Ohio State Farm Bureau Board, 12 years on the Lorain County Soil and Water Board. He also served on the Landmark Board of Directors. He was awarded the Outstanding Young Farmer Award, Lorain County Dairy Service Award and the Family Heritage Award from Baldwin-Wallace College. Lawrence was a lifetime member of Henrietta United Methodist Church and was active with various church committees and positions.
Lawrence enjoyed his wife’s cooking and baking and flying his Cessna Airplane. His hobbies included golfing and astronomy. Lawrence enjoyed traveling with his friends and family on Motorcycle and Ski trips. He was an avid reader, especially anything that was science related.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years Lois Baumann (nee: McConnell); his children Linda (Don) Danielson of Goodyear, Arizona, Wayne (Natalie) Baumann, Ron (Judy) Baumann and Kristi (David) Palmer all of Amherst; his grandchildren Katie, Olivia, Audrey, Corey, Justin, Brandon, Madison;and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Rev. Franklin Baumann and Warren Baumann and his parents Benjamin Franklin and Mary Baumann (nee: Geyer).
Private graveside services will be held by the family at Henrietta Township Cemetery.
A Drive Thru Celebration of Life will be held at the family farm located 52087 Telegraph Rd. Amherst, on Sunday August 16, 2020 from from 4-7. Lois and her family will greet you from your car as you pass thru the family farm.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Henrietta United Methodist Church.
