Kristie Grisez Obituary

Kristie Lynn Grisez (nee: Matlock), 53 years of age, and a resident of Oberlin, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023 at her home following a brief illness.

Kristie was born June 1, 1970, in Amherst where she was raised and graduated from Marion L. Steele High School with the class of 1988.   Oberlin has been her home for the past 2 years.

After high school Kristie went on to receive her degree in education from Ashland University.  She also proudly served her country in the United States Marine Corps during Desert Storm.   Kristie was an intervention specialist in the Lorain City School District and most recently at the Kindergarten Village for the Elyria City School District.  At a very early age Kristie began to foster a love for horses.  She began her equestrian endeavors at the age of 11 when she started training and caring for her own horse and eventually joined her local 4H horse club, where she found joy showing her horse at the Lorain County Fair.

She most recently achieved her lifelong dream of establishing her own boarding facility, the Gold Dust Stables located in Oberlin.  Kristie had the heart of an advocate and was always available to serve both people and animals alike whenever there was a need.  By far her greatest joy was found in her children of whom she was immensely proud.  Kristie always looked forward to family time, the occasional family vacation, and being the “hangout” for all of her children and their friends (especially the pool parties).

Kristie leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Hali Renee Matlock of Oberlin, Conner William Grisez of Lorain; her grandson, Parker Conrady; her parents, Doyle and Carol Matlock (nee: Zunt) of Amherst; her siblings, Wayne Matlock of Marion and Michelle Kirsch (Mark) of Amherst; her niece and nephews Bradley, Matthew, and Kathleen Kirsch.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 3-7 at the Hempel Funeral Home in Amherst.  Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 am from the funeral home.  Kristie’s cousin, Anthony Zunt will officiate.  Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin where military honors will be provided.  Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the children or a charity of your choice.
