Kathleen Ann Berkel (nee: Logue) 75 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, at MetroHealth Medical Center following a brief illness.
Kathleen was born August 17, 1946 in Elyria and where she was raised before moving to Amherst Township in 2000. She was employed at the Eliza Jennings Home in Olmsted Falls for 28 years.
Kathleen was a member of the Community of Faith Church in Elyria and a former member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Elyria. She was also a member of the Elyria United Polish Club and the Elyria AMVETS #32. She was a very loving, caring, and independent individual She was “mom or Nan” to everyone. She never missed one of her children’s and grandchildrens’ activities. She has been reunited with her true love in heaven, Ronald Berkel, who passed away in 2004. Kathleen was not only a mother to her children, but they were also her best friends. In addition to caring for her family, she and Ron were foster parents for over 23 years.
Survivors include her children Dawn Hoogenkamp of Elyria; Richelle Kleinhenz of Grafton; and Ronald (Barbara) Berkel II of Elyria; her grandchildren Ryon L. Berkel; Megan J. Berkel; Jonathan M. Berkel; Elizabeth A. Kleinhenz; Christina N. Berkel; David J. Kleinhenz; Andrew J. Kleinhenz; and Rachel R. Kleinhenz; three great grandchildren Dawson; Isabella; and Regan; her brother Rick (Lisa) Logue; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-eight years Ronald Berkel; son in laws
Emile Hoogenkamp and David F. Kleinhenz, and great grandson Carter L. Berkel; and her parents Richard and Bette Logue (nee: Fowler).
Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 5 pm until 8 pm.at Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, Ohio. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Monday at 11 am with a burial to follow at Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.
