Joyce Hans Obituary

Joyce Lynn Hans (nee: Stephenson), 71 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024 following a brief illness.

She was born June 7th, 1952 in Lorain. Joyce was a lifetime resident of Lorain and was a graduate of Lorain High School.

Her primary focus in life was raising her children and grandchildren with her husband, Rick. Since she was a stay-at-home mom, she was able to put time into her love of crafts and toll painting. She spent time participating in and attending craft shows with friends and taking road trips to Amish country. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida to visit family during the holidays, summertime, and spring break.

Later in life, she loved to spend time raising her grandchildren. Together, they played a lot of games, spent time outdoors and she taught them to make her favorite recipes including chicken a la king, lasagna, and potato salad. Christmas time was her favorite, having family together, making memories and spoiling her grandkids. Baking cookies, making chocolates for Christmas and her annual empire cookie decorating was always a must. Over the last several years, Joyce and Rick spent a lot of their time traveling to watch their grandchildren’s sporting events, no matter how far away they were. The kids were the light of her life and are partly who they are today because of her. Joyce’s kindness for others was unwavering and she will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Richard “Rick” Hans, her children, Scott Hans (Jennifer) of Lorain, Summer Sikora (Benjamin) of Amherst and David Hans (Rachele) of Lorain; her grandchildren, Drew Hans, Kaden Sikora, Braylon Hans, Zac Hans, Brody Hans, Aubrey Sikora, and Mason Hans. Her siblings include Cheryl Boston of Leesburg, FL, Jim Stephenson of Palmetto, FL, and Dale Stephenson (Kelly) of Bradenton, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Audrey Stephenson (nee: Firestone).

Friends may call Thursday, Feb 1, 2024 from 3:00 until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. A Celebration of Life will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Amherst Eagles, 1161 Milan Avenue, Amherst. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com.
