Josephine “Jo” Margaret Scharein (nee: Long), 97 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 24, 2023 after a brief stay at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain, following a full and blessed life.
She was born October 24, 1925, in Lorain where she was raised and graduated from Lorain High School. Amherst has been her home for the last sixty years.
Jo was a member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Amherst and a former member of both Church of the Open Door in Elyria and Family Fellowship Foursquare of Amherst. She loved to serve the Lord no matter what church she was at. She worked as a billing clerk at Ohio Edison. She met and married Karl Scharein and when they started a family she remained at home and flourished as a wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved to sew, bake, and cook especially around the holidays. She was a faithful supporter of all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. She leaves behind a cherished legacy of faith, family, and hospitality.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Brotherton (Ron) of Vermilion Township, Sandra Aufdenkampe (Fritz) of Amherst, and Karen Kukucka (Dave) of Amherst; grandchildren, Ronnie Brotherton, Ryan Brotherton, Heidi (Mike) Triska , Hanna (Mark) Porcher , Katie (Christian) St. Peter and David (Rachel) Kukucka; great-grandchildren, Ryliegh Brotherton, Reese Brotherton, Breckyn Brotherton, Kaidyn Brotherton, Camden Porcher, Connor Porcher, Sophia Triska, and Jo Triska.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life of sixty-nine years, Karl Henry Scharein in March 30, 2015; her brothers, Robert and Thomas Long, and her parents Everett and Margaret Long (nee: Silk).
Friends may call Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 1 pm until the time of the service at 2 pm at the Hempel Funeral Home. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.
