Joseph A. VanCooney went home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2021, following a short illness. Joe was born to Charles VanCooney and the late Jean Bias Thomas.
Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and always enjoyed telling a good joke. He also enjoyed having fires in his wood burner in his garage where he stayed busy with small projects. Joe loved his grandchildren and thought the world of them.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Janell VanCooney (nee: Hall); his three children, Joey (Mandy) VanCooney, Misty (Matt) Evans, and Brandon (Hannah) VanCooney; his four grandchildren, Jack and Dan VanCooney, Mitchel, and Marcy Evans; his father, Charles VanCooney, and mother in law Shelby Hall.
Joe is also survived by his sisters, Debbie (Jeff) VanCooney, Sandy (Ryan) Evans, and Candy (Roger) Ulbrich; his brothers, Mike (Melissa) VanCooney, and Tony VanCooney; his sister in laws, Audra (Chris) Workman, and Sharon (Gary) Jones; his brother in laws, Keith (Barb) Hall, and Carl (Cheri) Hall; along with many nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his mothers, Jean Bias Thomas and Janice VanCooney; his father in law, Arlin Hall, and his brothers, Roy Elbin and Rob Harrison.
Public visitation for family and friends will be held at Hempel Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, in the evening, by reservation at https://signup.com/go/sVCqjAo , or by phoning the funeral home at 440-988-4451 during business hours of 9-5. Funeral services will be held Thursday, at the funeral home, by reservation at https://signup.com/go/MAnbjTP . Rebroadcasting of services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/ The Rev. Jayson Samons, pastor of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
