John 'Jack' R. Dobias

John ‘Jack’ R. Dobias, 85, of Amherst, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023, at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

Born July 24, 1937, in Sandy Lake, PA, John moved to South Amherst at a young age.  His family moved to Amherst his senior year where he graduated from Central School in 1955.  He has resided at the same residence for the last 57 years in Amherst.

Mr. Dobias is a veteran of the US Air Force, worked for the Beech-Nut Baby Food Company and retired from the Lorain Ford Plant after 30 years.

He was an avid golfer, he enjoyed his puzzle books and loved spending time with his family.  He was a member of Old Stone Church where he taught Sunday School, and worked with Refugees from Laos.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Shirley (nee: Flanders); sons, John, Ken (Joey), Chris (Ricky)  and daughter Teresa Gilles (Paul); seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by parents John and Catherine (nee Tarnosky) Dobias; a brother Paul Dobias and a sister Margie Burnett.

Friends may call on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 5-7 pm at Old Stone Church, 553 S Main St., Amherst, followed by a memorial service at 7 pm.  A celebration of life will be held on the second floor of Ziggy’s Pub and Restaurant, 193 Park avenue, following the service.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Old Stone Church, 553 S. Main Street, Amherst, Ohio 44001.
