Joan Junglas Obituary

Joan Junglas, 84 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Joan was born March 9, 1939, in Lorain.  She graduated with the class of 1957 from North Ridgeville High School and maintained her residence there before moving to Amherst where she made her home for the last 22 years.

Joan was a sales associate for 60 years at Januzzi’s Footwear assisting countless customers, young and old, with their footwear needs and tying up their purchases with string.  She was a member of Toledo Road Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for many years and led the Women's Bible Study on Wednesday nights.  Joan was active in TOPS over the years and encouraged others in their goal to lose weight for good.  In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, traveling, watching the Guardians, and above all, spending time with her family.

She is survived by many relatives including her sisters Helen Barnard of Amherst, and Elenore Sowders (Leslie) of Amherst; her nephew, Stanley (Stacey) Barnard, Jr. of Amherst; her nieces, Pam (Larry)Pearson of Elyria, Lisa (Randy) Haring of Amherst, Susan (Erik) Thiery of Vermilion, Ann (Eric) Mahler of Concord, Julie (Scott) Saylor of Myrtle Beach, SC; 5 great nieces; 5 great nephews; 1 great great niece; and 2 great great nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Jimmie Lee Junglas (nee Stinecipher) sisters Dorothy Junglas and Sally Defibaugh; her brothers in law, Joe Defibaugh and Stanley Barnard, Sr.; and her niece, Diana Conner.

Friends may call Monday, June 5, 2023 from 4-7 pm at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst.   Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, at 11 am at the funeral home as well.   Deacon Bud Collier, of Toledo Road Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park,  Amherst Township, Ohio.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Toledo Road Church of Christ, 5075 Toledo Rd., Lorain OH 44053.
