Jean E. Snyder (nee: Ellsworth), 94 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023, following a full and meaningful life.
She was born June 30, 1928 in Canton, Ohio. Jean had made her home in Amherst where she had resided until her passing. She was a graduate of North Canton High School with the class of 1946. In 1950, Jean received her Bachelors from the College of Wooster.
Jean was employed over her lifetime as a teacher at many schools, including Chestnut Township, Canton South, Richmond Heights, Orange, and finally Amherst Central Jr. High School. Outside of her work as a teacher, she loved to play golf. She not only played golf, but was quite gifted, once one putting nine straight greens just a few hours after her 80th birthday party. Her athletic abilities also extended to her intramural basketball days in high school. Outside the green and the court, Jean enjoyed playing bridge, arranging flowers, and traveling. She and her husband especially enjoyed traveling with dear friends Joe and Rita Deliman. Jean was a member of the Women’s Ohio Dental Association and served as the association’s president in 1968 and 1969. She was also a longtime member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. Her greatest joy in life; however, was her family and spending time with them.
Survivors include her children, Scott E. Snyder (Cindy) of Amherst, Kent L. Snyder of Ashland; her daughter in law, Lynda Snyder of Willard; her German daughter, Carla Thau (Hans) of Germany; her grandchildren, Amy, Mel, Erick, Matthew; her great grandchildren, Meredith, Tyler, Zoe, Jake, Mark, Tucker and Lincoln; her siblings Jerry Ellsworth (Nancy) and Joan Morris (Ken) both of North Canton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Thomas L. Snyder; her son Mark Snyder; her siblings, Joe, Jim, Jack and Walt Ellsworth; and her parents Archie and Mildred Ellsworth (nee: Sheppard).
