Janet Lee McClung (nee Perry), 83 years of age, passed away Sunday May 8 2022, at her home (Willowood Nursing Center, Brunswick OH) following a battle with dementia and cancer.
She was born June 27, 1938, in Marfrance, West Virginia and lived the majority of her life in South Amherst, OH. Janet and her late husband (Ira Leighton) were married and started their family in 1956. They lived in Rainelle WV for several years after their marriage. Janet worked as a waitress in a local restaurant, while Ira worked in the nearby coal mines. Janet and Ira then
moved from West Virginia to South Amherst, Ohio in the early 1960s. In addition to being a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker she worked at the General Motors plant in Elyria OH and then as a restaurant cook at the Quarry Cafe in Amherst, OH before retiring. She also enjoyed planting and raising flowers, as well as reading, country music and home cooking.
Survivors include her son, Tim W. McClung and his wife Jeannie (nee Bauman); grandchildren, Brandon T. McClung, Breanna J. Brawley (nee McClung); Richard Brawley Jr. (husband of
Breanna); and great grandson, Samuel L. Brawley, brothers, Jerry Perry, Dennis Perry and Michael Perry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Leighton McClung; brothers, Ralph Perry, Carmel Perry and sister Leona McGraw (nee Perry)
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 10 am until the time of services at 12 noon. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
