James Roe Dillon, 82 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Davidson Hospice House in Cleveland, following a full and meaningful life.
He was born March 15, 1940, in Floyd County, Kentucky and lived there until he was 19. At age 19 he moved to Lorain where he has made his home since.
James was employed at Ford Motor Company in Lorain for thirty-eight and a half years before retiring from the maintenance department . He was a strong, firm believer in the union and dedicated his life as an advocate for the union serving as a guide for the Local 425. He served on the board with the Community Action Program in Lorain County for many years. James was a faithful member of Broadway Assembly Church in Lorain. Outside of work and church, James loved being a snow bird and spending his winters in Florida. James loved traveling with his wife throughout the United States. He found enjoyment and peace sitting by Lake Erie and by the ocean when he was in Florida.
Survivors include his children, Timothy Dillon of Lorain, Dreama (Paul Kevin) Dollar of South Amherst, Deanna (Anthony) Ramey of Amherst and Donna Dillon of Lorain; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; and his brother Roger (Nancy) Dillon of Owingsville, KY; his beloved sister in law Virginia Webb; and his companion and friend, Ruth Rohlke. He also leaves behind treasured friends from his many years at Ford Motor Company.
He was preceded in death in 2011, by his wife of fifty-two years, Phyllis A. Dillon (nee: Wright); and his sisters, Ada and Allie Mae, and his parents, James and Dreama Dillon (nee: Woods); and by his two granddaughters, Tabitha Embrey and Mandy Dillon.
Public visitation will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Broadway Assembly Church in Lorain. Funeral will be held the following day Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Broadway Assembly Church in Lorain. For those unable to attend, the services will be live streamed on YouTube via Broadway Assembly Church. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . The Rev. Matt Jones, pastor of Broadway Assembly Church will officiate. Burial will take place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
