James Bradley Lewis, 72 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Wesleyan Village of Elyria following a lengthy illness.
Jim was born June 22, 1949, in Grand Rapids, MI where he was raised and played basketball at an early age. He moved to Sandusky, Michigan and graduated from Sandusky High School. He graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Elyria has been his home for the past six years.
He retired as a custodian from Lorain Catholic. Previously, he worked in Environmental Services and as the Director of Housekeeping for many companies such as Service Master, Metro Hospital, Nordson, University Hospital, Fisher Titus and St. Joseph Hospital. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan as well as an Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-nine years, Marilyn “Mert” Lewis (nee: Vollmer); his children, Anthony “Tony” (Jill) Lewis of Zeeland, MI, Erin (Jason) Wisniewski of Holland, MI; his grandchildren, Jacob (Kendra) Wisniewski, Christina Wisniewski, Katelyn, Hannah, and Maxwell Lewis; his great granddaughter, Virginia “Ginny” Wisniewski; his siblings, Kendall Lewis of Akron, Carole (Peter) DeHart of Ann Arbor, MI; his sisters in law, Sharon Vollmer of Amherst and Judy (Tom) Wright of Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Thomas Vollmer and George Vollmer II; his parents, the Rev. Allen J. and Kathleen Lewis (nee: Thurman).
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 1 pm until the time of the service at 4 pm at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, OH 44001. The Rev. Margaret D’Anieri will officiate. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com .
