James Edward Hiteshew, 70 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, passed away April 4, 2022, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.
He was born October 6, 1951, in Michigan where he lived for many years as a young man. Jim eventually came to Ohio and made his home in Vermilion for twenty years before moving to Elyria in 2000, where he resided until his passing.
He was employed as a long haul commercial truck driver as well as a member of the Teamsters for many years. Jim was also employed at Ford Motor Company in Lorain and Avon retiring in 2007. He was a member of the Community Congregational United Church of Christ of Amherst where he was always actively serving, especially in their VBS program. He was active with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Jim loved singing and performing music with local choirs and also served in providing pastoral care for local churches in need. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating and took great pride in his enormous garden. Jim also enjoyed flipping houses. Jim’s calendar was always full of appointments to help others and he will be remembered as a person that had a big heart, always ready to help those in need.
Survivors include his loving wife of eighteen years, Margaret “Maggie” LeGlise; his children, Jason Hiteshew of Michigan, Heather Itso (Tony) and Dax Hiteshew both of Florida; his father, Charles I. Hiteshew of Florida; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister, Sandra Neiman of MI; and his mentee’s, Mark Anthony Schaeffer and Jacob Shawver.
He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret “Marge” Elizabeth Hiteshew (nee: Carter), as well as three sisters and one brother.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 5-8p.m. at Hempel Funeral Home in Amherst. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Community Congregational United Church of Christ of Amherst, 379 South Main Street, Amherst.
