Harry McCreedy, Jr. Obituary

Harry Newton McCreedy Jr., 81 years of age, and a resident of Brownhelm Township, passed away  Sunday, July 17, 2022, at his home, following a full and meaningful life.

He was born December 26, 1940, in Troy, New York.  Harry was raised in Oberlin, graduating from Oberlin High School. He continued his education at Dyke College, Kent State University, Baldwin Wallace College, and Ohio Northern University.

Harry was employed at Ford Motor Company for thirty-four years in Human Resources and Labor Relations before retiring. He went on to work for Inservco in LaGrange as the HR manager for many more years before retiring from there as well. Harry was a member of the Air Force National Guard.

Harry had a keen interest in history and genealogical research, a pursuit which led him to visit his U.S. ancestral home in Plattsburgh, New York where he discovered a cemetery comprising graves of McCreedy ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War.  His family had emigrated from Ireland and Scotland to become citizens of the United States of America.

Harry enjoyed a family oriented rural lifestyle where over the years, he raised Scottish Highland cattle, chickens and many litters of Australian Shepherds.  Harry was a member of Henrietta United Methodist Church where he was very active before his illness.  He loved the interaction with others and the fellowship it offered.  Harry loved boating, traveling, playing golf, and attending antique car shows.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Sharon Elaine McCreedy (nee: Cameron); his son Matthew Sean McCreedy of Vermilion and his brother William McCreedy of Wakeman.

He was preceded in death by his sister Patricia E. McCreedy in 2018; and his parents, Harry Newton and Helen McCreedy (nee: Milne).

Graveside services will be held privately by the family.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Brownhelm Historical Association, “BHA General Fund”, 1950 N.
