Harold “Monk” Raesler, 91 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at his home following a full and meaningful life.
He was born February 18, 1929 in Amherst. Monk was a graduate of Amherst High School and had made his home in Amherst for most of his life.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Monk was employed at Lorain County Beverage as a delivery man. He was a member of the Amherst American Legion Post #118, Amherst Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1442 for over sixty years, the Amherst Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1662 and the Italian American Veterans Post #1 in Lorain. In his earlier years, Monk enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas where he enjoyed playing Keno.
Survivors include his daughter Doris Bellinger of Lorain; his grandchildren Debbie (Keith) Dotson, James (Darlene) Bellinger, Doug (Angie) Bellinger, Scott (Mindy) Bellinger; his great grandchildren Johnny Helsel, Mark (Sarah) Dotson, Jimmy Bellinger, Justin Bellinger, Scott J. Bellinger, Lauren Bellinger, Jack Bellinger and Christian Bellinger; his great great grandchildren Max and Sam.
He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-nine years Alvira M. Raesler (nee: Bliss) in 2003; his great grandson Matt Dotson; his son-in-law James Bellinger; and his parents Albert and Lillian Raesler (nee: Dock).
Private services will be held at Hempel Funeral Home in Amherst. A Celebration of Life for Monk will be held at a later date.
