Harold Eugene Dalton, 74 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, July 21, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
Harold was born November 23, 1946, in Marshes Siding, KY, and raised in South Amherst, graduating from South Amherst High School. Vermilion has been his home for the last 6 years.
He was a longtime member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and served there faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and VBS Director. During his early years, he faithfully served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War with the 2nd. Battalion, 3rd. Marine Corp Division and was recipient of many medals including 3 purple hearts. He also served as the coordinator for the high school reunion of South Amherst High School. His ultimate joy in life was his family, grandchildren, and great grand-child.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years Joyce Ann Dalton (nee: Stephens): his daughters Audrey Chatfield (Bart) of Amherst, BillieJo Eads (Clint) of South Amherst; 3 grandchildren Garrett Chatfield, Bethany Hale (Michael), Spencer Morrow; his great-grandchild Novalee Hale; and his brother James Hayden Dalton of Waterford, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Wilda May; and his parents Hurstle and Rosa Dalton (nee: Neely).
Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 9457 Baumhart Road, Amherst. The Rev. Roger Dorsey, pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/ . Burial will follow at New Russia Township Cemetery.
