Geraldine Elizabeth Church

Geraldine Elizabeth Church (nee: Walters-Creel), 91 years of age, and a resident of Wakeman, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on  Sunday, August 16, 2020, at her home following a long and blessed life.

She was born August 18, 1928 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Geraldine had made her home in Wakeman since 1972, after being a longtime resident of Lorain, Ohio.

Her primary focus in life was that of a housewife and mother. Geraldine treasured the time she spent with her family.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Wakeman since 1974. Her hobbies included reading, bingo, gardening and enjoyed playing Bunco.  Geraldine enjoyed the time she spent socializing with her friends throughout the week. Also, she was an active volunteer at the Lorain Community Hospital.    

Among those who will cherish Geraldine’s memory are her children, Robert Church of Toledo. Keith (Kathy) Church of London, Ohio; Paul (Pam) Church of Birmingham, Sara (John) Bentley, Norwalk, Lori (David) Dillon of Wakeman; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and two on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years Donald Lee Church on July 12, 2019;  her siblings; mother Hulda Walters (nee: Claybaugh); and John (Sarah) Creel who raised her.

Public visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2020, evening by reservation at https://signup.com/go/TGrRyji   or by calling 440-988-4451 during business hours 9-5 pm, at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, Ohio.  Limited public funeral for family and friends will be held Thursday, August 20th.  morning by reservation at          https://signup.com/go/dVMuskq at First Baptist Church of Wakeman; 5918 Butler Road, Wakeman, Ohio.  Rebroadcasting of services will be available at   www.hempelfuneralhome.com. The Rev. Bill Kopas, pastor of Camden Baptist Church will officiate.  Burial will take place at Wakeman Cemetery.
