Gail E. Kamp-Smith

Gail E. Kamp-Smith , 89 years of age, and a resident of Elyria,  went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, following a full and meaningful life.

She was born May 23, 1933, in Kipton, Ohio.  Gail was a lifetime resident of Lorain County and had made her home in Elyria for most of her adult life. She was a graduate of Cedarville College.

Gail was employed  as an executive secretary to the pastors at the Church of the Open Door. She was a member of The Church of the Open Door in Elyria where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a faithful servant with the hospitality and music ministries.  Gail’s energy was focused on serving her Lord at home and at church.  Her ministry opportunities included assisting her husband David as a pastor's wife in the various churches' where he served.  She served as a pianist at Linwood Park Methodist Church in Vermilion, along with other local churches that needed her ministry. Gail loved cats and found endless joy in her pets.

Survivors include her stepchildren, Larry R. Kamp of Boston, Massachusetts and, David A. Kamp of Orlando, FLorida; three step grandchildren; and her brother Lynn Meyers (Deborah) of Elyria; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of thirty-two years, Edward F. Kamp on March 18, 1997; by her second husband of twenty-four years, David E. Smith on December 29, 2022;  and her parents.

Friends may call  Thursday, May 11th, 2023, from 11 am until the time of services at 12 noon at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue,  Amherst.  Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com .
