Fredrick William Zemanek, 87 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, February 11, 2021.
He was born July 6, 1933, in New Cumberland, West Virginia. As a young boy his family moved to Scottdale, Pennsylvania and he graduated from Scottdale High School with the class of 1951. Fredrick proudly made his home, with his loving wife Shirley, in Amherst for the last sixty-one years.
He proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Fredrick was employed at Lorain National Bank for thirty years before retiring as a loan officer in 1996. He was a longtime member of the Amherst City Golf League and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Even though he lived in Ohio, he remained an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan. His favorite spot to vacation was Las Vegas.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Shirley M. Zemanek (nee: DeTurk); his daughter, Michele (George) Poulos; his son, Scott (Andrea) Zemanek, and his grandsons, Zachary and Bradley; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen and his wife Dorothy Zemanek; and his parents, Steve and Wanda Simon (nee: Chetock).
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst OH. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Rebroadcasting of the mass will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/
