Frederick ‘Fred’ Henceroth, Jr., 90 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, following a long and full life.
Fred was born October 12, 1933, in Hazelhurst, MS, and was raised in both Mississippi and Rosbys Rock, West Virginia. He has made Amherst his home for over seventy years.
Fred was a carpenter with the Cleveland Carpenters Union Local 435. His entire life was spent in the construction industry. He got his early start with Ruth Building Supplies in Amherst delivering coal and then worked at Amherst Lumber Co.. He later worked for Star Builders and finally for Dunlop and Johnston Construction as a commercial carpenter. Fred was an avid bowler and later in life he took up golfing. He was a social member of the Amherst VFW and the Sons of the American Legion.
Survivors include his children, John ‘Rick’ (Nortena) Henceroth of South Amherst; Bryan (Nancy) Henceroth of Elyria; Craig (Brenda) Henceroth of Lorain; Kevin (Kathy) Henceroth and Lisa Robinson both of Amherst; twelve grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife of sixty five years Nancy Lee (nee Rodgers); by his parents, Frederick Shirl, Sr. and Martha Jemima Henceroth (nee: Honea); and by grandson, Adam Matthew in 1990; as well as by ten siblings
Friends may call Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 3-7 pm at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am from the funeral home. The Rev. Rich Henry, chaplain of the Amherst Fire Department, will officiate. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . Burial will follow at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst, Ohio.
