Francis Niece

Francis Niece,  91 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Mill Manor Nursing Home in Vermilion, following a full and meaningful life.

She was born September 3, 1929, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Frances was raised in Whitesburg Kentucky before moving to Lorain County where she had made her home for the last fifty-five years.

She was employed as a cook at Oak Hills Nursing home for ten years along with several restaurants in the area and Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain and for 35 years ran her own cleaning service.  Frances was a longtime active member of Church of God in Sheffield.  She loved to travel. Francis greatest joy was the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Curtis “Jr.” Niece, Jr. (Linda) of North Ridgeville, Joyce Domanski (Chuck) of Vermilion, and Brenda Koteff (Vlade) of Vermilion; her grandchildren, Heather Newman, Robin Wuench, Renee Carpenter, Justin Koteff, Kyle Koteff; her great grandchildren, Tyler Newman, Joshua Newman,Christen Carpenter, Ethan Carpenter, Hudson Koteff, and Easton Koteff; and her cousin, Janice Baker of Tiffan.  

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Curtis Niece in 1986; her half siblings, Raymond Hammonds, Burl Hammonds, Carol Hammonds, Juanita Stephenson and Helen Pratt; and her parents, Foster and Kathryn Newman (nee: Wilcox).

A public visitation for family and friends will be held  Monday, April 12, 2021 from 5-7 pm at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, Ohio. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 13th,  at 11am. at the funeral home.  Due to Covid-19, we are requesting that masks be worn and social distancing be maintained. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/ .  Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
