Emma Mann Obituary

Emma Jean Mann (nee: Porter), 88 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 1, 2024, following a full and meaningful life.

She was born February 20, 1935, in Stephens, Kentucky. Emma had made her home in Lorain County for the last seventy-three years.

She attended Lake Avenue Baptist Church, and was formerly a member of Victory Baptist Temple in Elyria and North Lake Missionary Baptist Church of South Amherst. Emma was employed as a teller at several banks, including Cardinal Savings, Fifth Third Bank. She was also employed as a head cashier at Kroger Grocery Store. Emma was very artistic and enjoyed crafts, especially wood crafts. She loved being with children, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love for her Lord and Savior and her family. 

Survivors include her children, Roy McDavid (Cindy) and Rhonda Linger (Steven) both of Lorain; her grandchildren, Roy “Tommy” McDavid,  Jr., (Debra), Philip McDavid, Rebecca Miller (Nathan), Sarah Wilmoth (David Jr.), Rachel Linger and Andrew Linger; seven great grandchildren; her sister, Wanda Lewis of Stephens, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-four years, Dewey Mann, Jr. on August 17, 1997; her siblings, Ray, Melvin, Mollie, Don, Gracie, Johnnie, and Liddie her parents, Roy and Audie Porter (nee: Stevens); and her granddaughter, Deanna Edith McDavid. 

Friends may call Friday, January 12, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11 a.m. at Lake Avenue Baptist Church, 310 Lowell Street, Elyria. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com. Burial will follow at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.

The family of Emma Mann would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Lorain Estates and Hospice of the Western Reserve for their gracious care and oversight of Emma during this difficult time.
