Elizabeth "Marie" Thacker

Elizabeth “Marie” Thacker, 78, passed away at home on Saturday, April 10, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. 

Marie was born on February 24, 1943 in Pikeville, Kentucky before moving to Lorain, Ohio in 1961. Marie married Tom Thacker in 1956 and the two had six children. 

She was a devout member of Midway Baptist Church and served the Lord any chance that she got. Marie enjoyed tending to the garden in her backyard, Bingo night, and spoiling her grandchildren. She loved her family and will be deeply missed by all. 

Marie leaves behind her children; Brenda (Marty) Grimmette, Chris (Jeff) Bortner, Karen (Jack) Butcher, Debbie Thacker, and Tommie (Angie) Thacker. She is also survived by her siblings Don McKinney, Bert  McKinney, and Kathy Spicer; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Martha McKinney; 6 siblings; her husband, Tom Thacker; and her daughter Teresa (Larry) McCleese.

A viewing will be held for friends and family from 6-8pm on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Midway Baptist Church; 41812 Griswold Road, Elyria, OH 44035. Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday, April 14, at 11am. Due to Covid-19, and for the safety of all, those attending the services are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing protocols. Rebroadcasting of the services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com. The Rev. Rick Keesee, of Midway Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will take place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Elizabeth’s memory to the family for distribution to her favorite charities.
