Dr. William Reed Obituary

William D. Reed, M.D., 88 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away October 13, 2023.

He was born November 2, 1934 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania where he was raised. He was a graduate of Waynesburg College and then went on to study at Temple Medical School in Philadelphia where he earned his medical degree.

William was board certified in radiology and was employed as a radiologist at Russell Berkebile and Associates before retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Lorain County Medical Society. William served two years in the United States Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base  in Sumter, South Carolina.

He enjoyed reading history and reading the Bible. William was a man of great faith. When his eye sight failed, he found comfort listening to his Bible tapes. William also lived his faith through his generosity to the many charities he supported; some of his favorites were Samaritan’s Purse, World Food Program USA, Doctors Without Borders, and Compassion International. He gave generously because as he said time and time again, “God has been awfully good to me.”  William was a kind and humble person.

He was a loyal friend and a fun-loving grandfather, affectionately known as “Pop Pop Bill” and “Boop” to his grandchildren—Jeremy, Shelby and Micah. William had a great sense of humor and was outgoing and friendly. He would strike up a conversation with anyone he met.

Survivors include his children, Christi Reed Sharon of Hamden, Connecticut, Wendi Carol Reed of San Diego, California, and Audrey Dalton of Norwalk Ohio. William had 6 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Lee Reed in 1997, his parents Milton N. and Margaret V. Reed (nee Davis), and his stepson Paul Wolfe Jr.

Per William’s wishes, a private graveside service was held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Three of his grandchildren Micah Sharon, Shelby Lane, and Jeremy Mitter shared their remembrances during the service. His daughter Christi also shared her reflections on the life her father lived.
