Doris Jean King (nee: Grimmett), 83 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021, surrounded by her family following a lengthy illness.
Doris was born May 4, 1937 ,in Quinwood, WV and raised in West Virginia before moving to Ohio in 1955. Elyria had been her home for the last 66 years.
Doris worked as the executive secretary for the president of Bendix Corporation for 25 years before retiring in 1992. She enjoyed quilting, needle point, reading and watching comedies, especially “I Love Lucy.” She loved to laugh and loved being with her grandchildren as often as possible. She treasured her family and friends and stayed in touch with most of them by phone when unable to do so in person.
Survivors include her children Denise (Mike) Hamulak of Amherst; Diane Burdette of Elyria; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; her brother Ray Grimmett of AZ; and her sister Louise Carter of NC.
She was preceded in death by her sons Stephen Burdette in 1995; Edward Burdette in 2021; her grandson Josh Burdette; and her parents Murray and Leida Grimmett (nee: Thomas).
Private services will be held by the family.
