Donald Abe Corn

October 6, 1937 ~ September 20, 2021 (age 83)


Donald Abe Corn, 83 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Donald was born October 6, 1937, in  Etowah, TN  where he was raised before coming to the Lorain area in 1952. Donald graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1955. Elyria has been his home for the last sixty plus years. 

Donald worked  in the maintenance department of the Ford Motor Corporation of Lorain before retiring in 2008.  Prior to that Donald worked as a welder at the American Shipyards where he used his skills in the building of the USS Kitty Hawk. He briefly worked in Arizona for the Goodyear Corporation in the aerospace division. He also worked for the American Bridge Building Company as an ironworker. He proudly served his country in the US Army.  In his spare time, Donald enjoyed building bicycles, dune buggies, and rail cars.  He was a car and motorcycle enthusiast and he treasured listening to his wife sing to him over the years.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-four years, Linda Corn (nee: Lavender); his children, Rhonda Corn of Grafton, Nancy (Eric) VanAlphen of NJ, Donald “Junior” (Joyce) Corn of Elyria; his step daughter, Kimberly Long of Columbus; his grandchildren, Bailey Gallaher, Kyle Corn, Kelsey Skeen, Zachary Skeen, Chelsea Haywood; his great grandson, Lex Lemon; his siblings, Douglas (Rosemary) Corn of WA, and Claudette (Wayne) Giles of AL.

Donald was preceded in death by his sister Darlene; and his parents Gilmer and Myrtle Corn (nee: Culberson).

Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at Beth-el Baptist Church 10170 West Ridge Rd, Elyria, Ohio 44035.  Rebroadcasting of services will be available at Pastor Ken Tucker, of Beth-el Baptist Church will officiate. Graveside services will take place at Buckeye Cemetery, Ironton, Ohio, Monday, October 25, 2021, at 11 am with Rev. Roger Lavender officiating.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Beth-el Baptist Church, 10170 West Ridge Rd., Elyria OH 44035.
