David Cullen, 75 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus following sudden illness.
He was born October 6, 1947, in Sandusky, Ohio, and was a graduate of Perkins High School.
David married his wife, Donna, on June 20,1970, and settled in Lorain. They lived there for forty-two years, raising two daughters. He spent many years working in the grocery business as a store manager. Later in life, he became a self-employed, independent snack distributor and continued that business until his retirement. Once retired, he and his wife moved to Amherst and have resided there since.
David was a family man who cherished holidays and family traditions. He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments. David was also a man of great faith and enjoyed going to church every Sunday. Known for his sense of humor, he loved to joke and had a knack for giving everyone he met a nickname. He was an avid follower of the stock market and lover of football, music, and watching TV in his favorite recliner. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Donna Cullen (nee: Mead); his children, Jennifer Werling (Justin) of Waterville, Ohio and Wendy Steinbrunner (Andrew) of Amherst; his sister, Sally Cutnaw (Stephen) of Lorain; his brother, Gary Cullen (Samia) of Palo Alto, CA; and his grandchildren, Addison, Avery, Macy, and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Harriet (nee: Lynn).
Friends may call Friday, June 2, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 115 Central Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Paul Werner, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
